How to Keep Diet Motivation

How to Keep Diet Motivation

Diet motivation is an all too important yet often overlooked part of weight loss success. It is hard to lose weight when you are full of negative thoughts. If you have tried dieting before with little success, this may be your problem. A positive attitude is very important when attempting to lose weight.

There may be some value in thinking yourself thin. It is even more important to quit thinking yourself fat. As a person who was overweight myself, I know that once I found the proper diet motivation things got better. Once I had convinced myself that I was going to lose weight and get in shape there was a positive change in me.

It is important to keep realistic expectations from the start. You need to realize that this is a marathon not a sprint. Change will not come overnight. Give yourself time to change both your weight and outlook.Make positive progress everyday and you will reach your goals.

As you take these steps record them in some sort of weight loss journal. Personally I like the idea of a weight loss blog. Going back over your journal is another trick to help you stay motivated to diet.

Use the following steps to help with diet motivation. No matter what diet you decide to follow these tips will compliment it.

Step 1, Define realistic goals:

Before you can set your goals you need to research and learn what someone with your body type and height should weigh. Next of course subtract that from your current weight.

Now set a time frame to reach your goal. Ideally you should try to lose about two pounds a week, keep this in mind when you plan your timeframe. Take this into account and set weekly and or monthly goals for yourself in addition to your long term goal.

Keep in mind that properly setting attainable goals is very important to weight loss. Setting unreachable goals is the worst thing you can do. This is perhaps the best way to completely derail your motivation to diet. There is nothing like missing a goal, to send you into what I call the “what’s the point tail spin.” You know when those feelings start to creep back in. The ones that say “Who am I kidding I’ll never lose this weight.” The next thing you know you’ve got a face full of double quarter pounder.

Contrary to that is how good it feels to reach goals even the small ones. Reaching these smaller goals and celebrating them is the way to keep your diet motivation for the duration.

Step Number two, Find out why you want to lose weight:

Where does your motivation to diet come from? This is something I can’t tell you. There are many good reasons people decide to start losing weight. So what’s yours?

Are you fed up with the name calling? I know I was. Are you interested in living longer? There might be a lot of things you want to do in life. Do you want to be more attractive? This is another reason that motivated me to lose weight.

These are just a few of the diet motivations I had when I decided to drop the weight. It’s your turn now look inside and figure out your reasoning for needing to lose weight. Remember to record all of them somewhere and keep them handy for those days when motivation is lacking.
